Love songs was a cool show. I had free reign over all things aural. I can't tell you how much fun it is to be able to basically do whatever you want with an hour and a half of somewhat unrelated 10 minute monologues. There were monologues with music running underneath throughout, each mood twist carefully timed musically. There were scenes with monotonous, repetitive pounding sounds that got louder and louder as the actress lost her mind. Live church organ, swing, talk show theme songs, 10 minutes of chirping crickets...This is only possible if the company you work for (more specifically the Director) has complete trust in your work, no matter how odd it might at first seem. This is why I will probably never work for another theater company. Of course, it also doesn't hurt to live with the Artistic Director.
